Responsibilities |
Responsible for the coordination of Nursing services during assigned shifts by providing administrative and clinical direction/redirection of nursing personnel and coordinating immediate responses to Emergency situations. Is guided by hand-over reports, nursing and Hospital policies, procedures, changes in patient acuity/condition, and administrative and clinical judgments.
Provides overall direction to nursing personnel on shift, being kept aware of patient, family, or staff issues.
Liaises with the Duty Administrator, Director of Nursing, Medical Director, Chiefs of Service or Department Heads as required to coordinate efforts or solve problems occurring on assigned shift.
Makes rounds to nursing units to see patients, review staff performance and staff allocation, taking actions as needed and informs the Director and appropriate Divisional Supervisors or Head Nurse.
Recognizes or anticipates problems on the shift and re-allocates staff between units or changes staff assignments as needed in response to changing patient acuity, emergency circumstances, or staff illness.
Receives and reviews reports on seriously ill patients, new admissions, deaths and any unusual situation and is readily available to assist or direct a plan of action if needed.
Serves as a role model for professional nursing practice and thoughtful guidance.
Monitors new staff to the Hospital and their adaptation to the shift and care requirements.
Aware of safety issues, taking action or reporting issues to appropriate Department Head.
Fosters a productive and positive working environment in the Hospital and encourages good relationships between departments/disciplines.
Reports to oncoming Supervisor and Director regarding patient conditions, issues of note and unusual situations encountered.
Performs other tasks and duties within the scope of the knowledge, skills, and experience required for the job, as assigned by the immediate supervisor. |
